1949 ; assistant-professeur puis professeur à l'Institute of Mathematical Sciences and Mechanics
1970 : directeur du Courant Institute "Perstare et Praestare"
1999 : départ à la retraite
professeur émérite à l’université de New York,
2020 : décès le 26 janvier à New York

He maintained close friendships with many colleagues around the world. He loved to travel, and to host visitors. He particularly enjoyed working with others; as a result, almost all his papers were coauthored.
